Project Background
India
is making significant investments in its power sector, with solar
renewables being one of them. Here, the project is design of foundations
for a solar plant structure which is a single axis tracker with
multiple rows. Size of a typical tracker is 50m x 100m and has about 22
to 25 rows; each row is 50m long. Each of these rows have a column that
needs to be supported on a founding base.

- Detailed analysis and foundation design involving hand calculations
- Working drawings for foundation design
Lessons
Wth Insolare and their associates, we undertook a
reiterative design process so as to primarily achieve economy through
design. We found that independent foundation units (6000 in number) will
suit the solar plant structure the best, and reduces the cost of
foundations to half.
